Aranmula Kannadi

 16th Century old unique mirrormaking tradition of Kerala survived through the centuries and it is preserved at the village of Aranmula, Kerala, southern India. Here, a cast hightin bronze mirror of 33% tin with the highly polished surface or reflective properties is made which is comparable to, if not much better than, modern mercury glasscoated mirrors. Our vendors are running this business making Kannadi over hundred years and this is the fourth generation of mirror makers.

Handling of Aranmula Kannadi

The mirror should be kept at room temperature away from heat and dust. The article used for polishing the frame of this mirror should not come in contact with the mirror. Paint with moisture if any should be cleaned off immediately.

Cleaning Process

 If someone by mistake touches the mirror, their fingerprints can be seen on the surface, this can be cleaned off, only if you rub it with cotton velvet cloth smoothly on the surface of the mirror within 5 minutes in the vertical direction. After cleaning sprinkle, a bit Brass cleaner on velvet cloth or mirror cleaning cloth, Fold the Cloth to 3 layers, cleaning drops should be an upper layer and clean with bottom layer on Aranmula Kannadi and hold it in a slanting position allowing the dust and other particles rubbed off from the reflective surface font.
