Aranmula is a small town in Kerala and is around 118 km from state capital Thiruvananthapuram and easily accessible from Chengannur which is 10 km away. Aranmula is listed as a Global Heritage site by UN. Aranmula is famous for its 400 years old crafts handmade Kannadi (mirror). This is a metal alloy or front surface reflection mirror. The exact metal used in making this mirror are kept as secret by the manufacturers family who are running this business for many generations. It is said that the alloy used in making mirror is mixture of tin and copper. It takes several days to polish this mirror to get mirror’s reflective surface. Aranmula Kannadi is considered as one of the eight auspicious item of Ashtamangalyam a Keralite marriage ritual.
