Lonavla or Lonavala is a hill station in Pune district. It is 64 kilometres from Pune and 96 km from Mumbai. It is known for its hard chikki and is also a major stop on train route between Mumbai and Pune. Mumbai Pune Expressway and Mumbai Chennai highway passes through Lonavla. The name Lonavala is derived from Sanskrit word lonavli, which means many caves like Karla Caves, Bhaja Caves and Bedsa closer to Lonavla. Lonavla and Khandala are twin hill station and nearby famous places are Karla, Bhaja and Bedsa caves. Two fortresses, Lohagad and Visapur are also places to visit to.
